Chennai, July 20 (UNI) South Chennai District AIADMK Secretary V P Kalairajan, MLA, today condemned the City Police Administration for not granting permission to the party for holding a peaceful demonstration in front of the State Guest House, ''without assigning any valid reason'' here.

Mr Kalairajan, representing T Nagar in the Assembly, told reporters that the party had planned to hold a demonstration in the city yesterday, to protest against the ruling DMK's ''failure'' to construct an MLA Office at T Nagar and the alleged ''stalling of emergency works'' in that area sanctioned under the MLA Constituency Development Fund.

He said when they approached the City Police seeking permission for holding a demonstration, the police officials told them that they had already granted permission for the same purpose to some other organisation on July 19. The police turned down their application with a request to select an alternate date.

He said after verifying the police records, they filed a fresh application seeking permission to hold demonstration today. However, there was no reply from the police, till last evening.

Meanwhile, the party's South Chennai District Office received a communication from the City Police stating that the permission granted to the party had been withdrawn, without assigning any valid reason.

He said the city police action was ''objectionable'' and alleged that they acted under the instruction of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and others.

Mr Kalairajan also joined issue with Mr Karunanidhi and said the Chief Minister was uttering lies about the developmental works in T Nagar Assembly constituency under the Local MLAs Constituency Development Fund.

He said the Corporation Commissioner had written a letter to him ruling out the ''feasibility'' of several developmental schemes recommended by him. On the other hand, Mr Karunanidhi had said works were going on in full swing, exposing the contradiction between an official and the Chief Minister.

He dared Mr Karunanidhi and City Corporation Mayor M Subramanian, to resign their posts, if he proved that the works which they claimed ''as on progress,'' were not even taken up.

The further course of action would be decided as per the directions of party supremo J Jayalalithaa, he added.
