MNRES to initiate steps to produce 80,000 MW power by 2025
Vijayawada, July 19 (UNI) The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources(MNRES) would take steps to produce about 80,000 MW power through Non-conventional energy route by 2025, MNRES Regional Director N B Raju, today said.
Talking to newspersons here, he said as of now about 10,357 MW was being produced through Non-conventional energy, which was about ten per cent of the national installed capacity.
Mr Raju said the pollution was caused due to coal-based thermal plants and use of petroleum products and their reserves.
He explained about the status of different programmes being implemented under different sectors at national level and about benefits of new and renewable energy technologies such as biomass, solar energy, wind energy, mini-hydel power plants.
The Director said Andhra Pradesh stood first in the use of bio-gas and solar energy.
In order to create awareness among children on Non-conventional energy, the ministry had proposed to organise painting competitions to the primary school children on August five at district level and August 12 at the state level, he said adding the winners would be awarded by Union Ministers and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at Hyderabad on August 20.
On the occasion of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's birthday on August 20, the national celebrations of 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urga Divas' would be organised in Hyderabad, he added.
Later, he reviewed the renewable energy programmes being implemented in Krishna District.
