Mah govt denies receiving letter from Big B returning agri land

Mumbai, July 19 (UNI) The Maharashtra Government today informed the Legislative Assembly that it had not received any letter from megastar Amitabh Bachchan returning the agricultural land purchased by him in Pune district.

The announcement to this effect was made by Revenue Minister Nayaran Rane to a point of information raised by BJP member Devendra Phadanvis after the question hour.

Mr Phadanvis brought to the notice of the house a written question in the question hour booklet in which Mr Rane wrote that the land purchased in Mawal taluka of Pune district was upheld only after the megastar produced a certificate from joint district collector of Barakhambi that he owned an agricultural land in the area since 1982.

The Revenue Minister said the Government has already announced that it will take back the agricultural land purchased by cine actors and other rich individuals.

Mr Rane also said even though media reports state that additional divisional commissioner of Barakhambi had rejected a review petition filed on behalf of the actor earlier on June 1, the State Government had no written correspondence to this effect.

Mr Phadanvis highlighted a report in a section of the press today which said Mr Bachchan had decided to give-up the land and has informed the Chief Minister about it.

''The government should have given this additional information along with the written reply,''he said, to which, Mr Rane said the State Government had not received any communication from the actor so far.
