Hardwar, July 19 (UNI) Controversies have erupted over the appointment of Dr Sudha Pandey, a noted educationist and former state public service commission member, as the new vice-chancellor of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University.

Dr Pandey joined her duties as the vice-chancellor of the university here yesterday amid protests from a section of Sanskrit teachers, students and VHP activists. The protesting students jammed the traffic at Devpura Tiraha, while the teachers held a meeting at Bhagwan Das Sanskrit College to protest that a person who was not grounded in Sanskrit traditions had been appointed the vice-chancellor ofthe University.

The protesting students and teachers requested the state Governor and University Chancellor Sudarshan agarwal to revoke the appointment of Dr Pandey.

Dr Pandey told UNI today that she would make her best efforts to enhance the quality of research and higher studies in all Sanskrit colleges of the state and make the study of Sanskrit language and literature job oriented.
