New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) today directed all airlines to facilitate air travel of officers and transport important presidential election materials.

Scheduled operators have been asked to ensure that all flights schedules are adhered to and no flights are delayed.

While polling for the presidential election takes place today in the national and state capitals, counting will take place here on July 21. Therefore all ballot boxes will have to reach New Delhi by tomorrow.

All officers on duty will be returning by executive class. The seats of these officers will be blocked in such a way that they are able to keep polled ballot boxes adjacent to their seat.

Ballot boxes will be carried as hand luggage in sealed condition and with due care so that the seal does not get damaged during transit. While the boxes will be screened through X-ray before being carried into the aircraft, this will be done with due care.

In some cases where the aircraft is of single configuration, airlines will ensure that the seating provided to officers is such that ballot boxes can be brought in as cabin baggage without difficulty.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed the Airports Authority of India, Delhi International Airport Ltd Indian (Airlines), the DGCA and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security to nominate one nodal officer each for coordinating with the Election Commission.
