Punjab Govt, NCC to give vocational training to youth

Chandigarh, July 18 (UNI) Punjab Government will collabrate with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to impart training and career counselling to the students from the state to enable them to be gainfully employed.

In a meeting with NCC Director General Lt Gen Prakash S Chaudhary here this morning, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary.

The committee comprises vice chancellors of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar University , Punjabi University Patiala and Panjab University Chandigarh, DPI (Colleges) and DPI (Schools) to finalise the modalities for the selection of site and modules courses to impart training to the students.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Chaudhary said that the state government could make optimum use of the vocational courses offered by the NCC to enable the students to be gainfully employed.

He said that youth from the state could be suitably employed in the private security ventures, BPOs and computers as it had a tremendous potential in the near future.

Mr Badal said "the Government has directed in principle to set up an accreditation agency for certification of trained security personnel for placement in the fast expanding corporate sector where their is a huge demand for youth." He also assured the Director General that the state government would contribute its share of 25 per cent as a matching grant towards 75 per cent share of Centre under various NCC programmes.

Mr Badal also announced that Punjab government would soon set up NCC complexes at all the district headquarters to strengthen its existing infrastructure besides ensuring better liaison amongst the departments of school, higher education and NCC authorities.

An official spokesman said the vice chancellors of all the universities in the state had agreed to pool their resources in collaborative enterprises with Punjab Government, the NCC and the recognised private players to create the necessary infrastructure for the purpose.

The vice chancellors had also agreed to provide space for setting up training centers in their college campuses, he said.
