University of Hawaii honours Indian School Student
New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) In a rare recognition of talent, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, US in association with the East West Center has awarded Certificate of Excellence to an Indian student.
Jalnidh Kaur, a class X student of Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana participated in ''Values For Life'' International Essay Contest, held under the auspices of Polynesian Voyaging Society.
She has been granted the title of ''Asia Pacific Leadership Programme- Junior Fellow''.
Only four participants out of the total number from nine different countries, in the age group of 14 to 18 years, were selected. Jalnidh Kaur was the only winner from India, while the others were from Bhutan and United States. Jalnidh was the youngest of all winners.
Jalnidh, who wrote on the topic ''Nurturing the Plant of Peace'', was invited to attend the 24th Annual Pacific Educational Conference at Honolulu, Hawaii from July 9 to 12, 2007.
Quoting the famous UNESCO saying, ''since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds that defenses of peace must be constructed'', she underlined that it's the people who indulge in violence and they only can make peace. Only a bond of spirituality can link the entire mankind.
