Two more Amarnath yatris die, toll 14

Srinagar, July 17 (UNI) A Gujarati resident and a soldier died while on their pilgrimage to holy cave shrine of Amarnath, a police spokesman said.

With this, 14 pilgrims, including a Muslim yatri, have died and 11 others were wounded since the start of the two-month-long pilgrimage to the cave shrine in south Kashmir.

An 82-year-old man Raoji Bhai of Gujarat, died due to massive heart attack at Baltal base camp last night.

An Army personnel Subedar Gurmeet Singh, suffered a heart attack at Brarimarg on way back to Baltal camp early this morning. He was immediately shifted to the medical camp where he died.

A Muslim pilgrim was among 12 yatries who died till yesterday since the devotees from different parts of the country started their journey to holy cave, much before the official commencement of the two-month-long yatra on June 30. Eleven pilgrims had died after the yatra was officially opened.

More than 1.35 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country, including women, children and sadhus visited the shrine so far.

Majority of them had since returned to their homes.
