Bangalore, July 17 (UNI) Karnataka Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu today informed the Legislative Council that Tata Motors proposed to establish a new unit for manufacturing luxury and small buses in Dharwad.

Replying to Basavraj Bommai (JD), he said the company also proposed to manufacture Light Commercial Vehicles(LCV).

The Company proposed to invest Rs 2044 crore, he said. The unit would generate employment opportunity to 10,400 people, he added.

Mr Naidu said the company, which was already been sanctioned 647 acres on Lease-cum-sale basis for a Body-building unit, had asked for additional 300 acre for the new unit and the same had been approved by the Government in principle.

The Minister said the Government was committed to implement Sarojini Mahishi report. Employment for local people would be convened to the Company, he added.

Earlier, Mr Bommai said the Company was neglecting sons of the soil while recruiting and only people from northern states were being employed.

He alleged that though 600 acres of land was allotted to the company, only 100 acre was utilised and the Government was not maintaining a record whether the land allotted was utilised or not.
