South West monsoon active over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 17 (UNI) The South West monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala as heavy to very heavy rainfall lashed almost all parts of the state.

According to local weather office here, rain occurred at many places in Lakshadweep also.

Angadippuram in Malappuram district recorded an exceptionally heavy rainfall of 27 cm, the highest in a single area in the season, it said and added Peerumdu also reported an extremely heavy rainfall of 26 cm.

The other places where heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in cm were Perinthalmanna 21, Konni 18, Munnar 17, Pattambi and Priavaram 16 each, Karippur airport, Ottapalam, Alathur and Haripad 15 each, Irrikkur, Tritala, Mavelikkara, Vaikom and Kozha 13 each, Chittur, Aluva and Kayamkulam 11 each and Chengannur, Kottayam, Kollam and Varkala 10 each, it added.

Rain would occur at most places in Kerala and at a few places in Lakshadweep, the weather officce added.

Scattered heavy rain was likely to occur in the state, it said, and warned fishermen that strong onshore wind from Westerly direction, speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph was likely along off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep during the next 48 hours.
