New Delhi, July 17: The Supreme Court today adjourned, till next week, the hearing of the Centre's application seeking vacation of the stay granted against enforcing the Government notification providing 27 per cent reservations to OBCs in admissions to the Centrally-run educational institutions.

A three judge bench, comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice R V Raveendran and Justice Dalveer Bhandari also fixed the batch of petitions challenging the Governmemt notification providing reservations to OBCs from the current academic session 2007-08, for further direction next week.

Counsel for the petitioners opposed the Centre's application on the ground that all the points raised in Centre's fresh application have already been considered and rejected by a two judge bench of this court, and the present application is only an attempt by the Centre to ask for a review by other three judge bench and also sought time to file reply to the application.

The petitions opposing the reservation policy of the Government have already been referred to a five judge constitution bench and the court may fix the date of hearing by next week.

The Apex court had earlier stayed the implementation of the notification providing quota for OBCs vide order dated March 29, 2007, for one year.
