RPI stage demo against privatisation of scavenging
Chennai, July 17 (UNI) Members of the Republican Party of India (RPI), including a group of scavengers staged a slogan shouting demonstration here today in protest against the Chennai City Corporation's move to privatise scavenging.
RPI National General Secretary Se Ku Tamilarasan, who led the demonstration strongly condemned the Corporation's "anti-labour" attitude. He dmanded the Corporation to drop the privatisation move immediately.
Mr Tamilarasan who is also RPI State President urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to intervene on the issue as it would affect the livelihood of thousands of scavengers in and around the city and order immediate halt to the privatisation move.
