TN temple sends holy "Vastrams" to TTD
Srirangam (Tamil Nadu), July 17: As part of showing divine respect to Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD), the authorities of Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple here have sent holy ''Vastrams'' to Tirupathi.
The holy ''Vastrams'' were being presented to the TTD by Srirangam temple every year during the auspicious Tamil month of ''Aani'' as a mark of respect to the TTD for protecting the idols of the processional deities (Lord Namperumal and his consorts Goddess Sridevi and Sri Bhoodevi) of Srirangam Temple at Tirupathi from the Muslim invasion centuries ago.
According to history, Pillailogachariyar, a Vaishnavite saint had safely took the idols of the processional deities of Srirangam temple, when the Muslim King Mohammed Bin Thuglaq invaded Srirangam town.
The idols were protected at the Tirupathi hills for two decades and later brought to Srirangam.
As a mark of respect to Srirangam temple, the authorities of TTD used to send holy ''Vastrams'' every year on the auspicious day of ''Kaisika Ekadesi''.
Similarly, in reciprocation, the authorities of Srirangam temple used to present holy ''Vastrams'', sandal paste, ''kum kum'', silk sarees and fruits to the TTD.
A 50-member team of Srirangam temple left for Tirupathi today and they would formally handover the holy ''Vastrams'' and other things to the TTD authorities at Tirupathi tomorrow.
