One infiltrator killed, massive search on in Kupwara

Baramulla, July 17 (UNI) One militant was today killed by security forces while search is on to trace five others who had infiltrated from across the PoK at Karnah in the frontier district of Kupwara on July 14.

A group of eight infiltrators had opened fire on July 14 which was returned by the troops, official sources said. Two of them were killed while six managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest and poor visibility.

One of the militants was killed in the ongoing operation this morning.

Reinforcements had been rushed from different directions towards the encounter site, the sources said, adding that about 15-km area was cordoned off from all sides.

The operation was on when the reports last came in.

Five more militants are still hiding in the woods, the sources added.
