One gas connection for each household: petroleum ministry

Bareilly, July 17 (UNI) To stop the misuse of domestic gas THE, petroleum ministry has adopted a new strategy under which only one connection would be given to each household.

''The domestic gas cylinders are being misused in cars, two-wheelers, generators, hotels and restaurants these days,'' Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) general manager Arun Kumar Girdhar said here.

He said the government and petroleum companies were under financial burden due to wide misuse of domestic gas.

''A software had also been developed by the petroleum ministry to count the number of connections in each household,'' he added.

While, a domestic gas cylinder weighs 14.2 kgs, the cylinder for commercial use weigh 19 kgs.

There are about nine crore domestic gas connections in the country and the central government provides a subsidy of Rs 160 per cylinder.

IOC had launched the service of Auto Liquid Petroleum Gas (ALPG) in several cities, including Agra, Lucknow, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Dehradun, Meerut and Nainital.
