No reason for delay in Mughal Road construction: Mufti
Srinagar, July 17 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today asked the Congress-led coalition government to speed up work on the Mughal Road, saying there was no reason for any further delay in its construction after the Supreme Court had cleared the prestigious project.
Interacting with a deputation of the Mughal Road Action Committee comprising representatives from Poonch, Rajouri and Shopian here last evening, he said there was no reason for further delaying the construction of the Mughal Road after the Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court cleared the project on July 12 this year.
Mr Sayeed said the state government must now speed up the construction work of the prestigious Mughal Road to cope up with the loss of time in its execution due to various legal wrangles.
The completion of the road would not only provide an alternative connectivity to Kashmir with the Jammu region, but also link some of the remote and beautiful areas of Rajouri and Poonch with the Valley through the shortest land route, he added.
The former Chief Minister said it would also speed up the economic development of these relatively neglected areas.
Expressing gratitude to the PDP Patron for his keen interest in the construction of the historic Mughal Road, the deputation said the project was vital for the physical connectivity of the area with rest of the state.
Mr Sayeed assured the deputation that the matter would be taken up with the state government for immediate re-starting the construction work on the Mughal Road.
