Monsoon active over Karnataka-Inflow to reservoirs increase

Mysore, July 17 (UNI) As monsoon becoming vigorous in the catchment areas of the Cauvery basin, the inflow into reservoirs has further increased forcing authorities to release water after maintaining maximum level.

The water level in Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS), built across the river Cauvery near here, was maintained to its full level of 124.80 feet today and with the inflow further increased to 31215 cusecs authorities have allowed discharge of 28779 cusecs.

The rain has been lashing the Kodagu district since yesterday affecting the normal life. Bagamandala was cut off from Madekeri since roads were overflowing with flood water.

Following the rains continued in the Wynad of Kerala the inflow into Kabini reservoir has increased to 40391 cusecs and authorities have been maintaining the level of 2282.76 feet(maximum level 2284 feet) in order to safety of the dam. The outflow was increased to 46117 cusecs.

Both KRS and Kabini reservoir authorities had already issued flood warning to the people living on the banks of the river to move to safer places.

The Harangi reservoir authorities in Kodagu district has decided to release water more to the river side following heavy inflows expected due to rains in the catchment areas. The inflow and outflow was 9017 and 9721 cusecs respectively. The level reading 2857.71 feet against its maximum level of 2859 feet.
