Monsoon active over Karnataka; Inflow into reservoirs increase

Mysore, July 17 (UNI) With the monsoon becoming vigorous in the catchment areas of the Cauvery basin, the inflow into reservoirs has further increased, forcing the authorities to release water.

The water level in Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir, built across river Cauvery, near here, was maintained at its full level of 124.80 ft today. With the inflow further increasing to 31,215 cusecs, authorities have allowed discharge of 28,779 cusecs.

Rains have been lashing Kodagu district since yesterday, affecting normal life. Bhagamandala was cut off from Madikeri as the roads were overflowing with flood water.

Following the continued rains in Wyanad of Kerala, the inflow into Kabini reservoir had increased to 40,391 cusecs and authorities have been maintaining the level at 2282.76 ft (maximum level 2284 ft) to ensure safety of the dam. The outflow was increased to 46,117 cusecs.

Both KRS and Kabini reservoir authorities have issued flood warning to the people living on the banks of the river to move to safer places.

The Harangi reservoir authorities in Kodagu district have decided to release more water to the river side as heavy inflows were expected due to rains in the catchment areas. The inflow and outflow were 9,017 and 9,721 cusecs respectively. The level read 2857.71 ft as against its maximum level of 2859 ft.
