Heavy rains shoot up water level of rivers

Lucknow, July 17 (UNI) Heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours has increased the water level of Ganga and Ghagra rivers in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), the highest rainfall level was recorded at Ghazipur 131 mm, followed by Varanasi, Lakimpur Kheri, Kanpur and Katarniyaghat at 110 mm, 103 mm, 90 mm and 78.2 mm respectively.

Showers also lashed Basti, Santkabir Nagar, Balrampur, Ayodhya and Rae Bareli.

The water level of Ganga river shoot-up in Varanasi, Ghazipur, Kanpur, Fatehgarh and Ballia.

Reports of increase in water level of Gomti, Ghagra, Kuani, Rapti and Gandak rivers had also been received.

According to the met department, heavy rains may lash several places of the state in the next 24 hours.
