HC stays fitting speed control governors in new vehicles

Bangalore, July 17 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today granted an interim order staying the notification of the State government regarding fitting of speed control governors in vehicles.

Granting the interim stay, Chief Justice Mr Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice B S Patil restricted the interim stay only to the new vehicles yet to registered.

The interim order was granted in a public interest writ petition filed by one Mr Y N Nanjappa, challenging the action of the government in postponing the last date for fitting the vehicles with speed control governors. The impugned notification dated 29.6.07 extended the dead line from 1.7.07 to 1.1.08.

The petitioner claiming to be senior citizen who had lost his son in road accident had been striving for the cause relating to road safety, traffic dispute and related issues. The impugned extension of dead line had been allegedly taken in view of the inadequacy of supply of speed control governors for the owners of vehicles and the petitioner contended that it was against public safety and the policy of the government in accordance with the provisions of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.
