Godhino elected Dy Speaker of the 5th Goa Legislative Assembly
Panaji, July 17 (UNI) Former minister Mauvin Godhino was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 5th Goa Legislative Assembly today.
Speaker Pratapsinh Rane of the House made the announcement immediately after it adopted a motion congratulating Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao on his election as the president of the Goa Football Association.
The House had earlier rejected the motion of Save Goa Front president Churchil Alemao who proposed the name of his colleague Alexieo Reginald Laurence by 17-22 votes.
The motion proposing BJP's Ramesh Talwadkar, also in the fray, could not be taken up with Godhino declared elected to the post earlier.
The motion in favour of Mr Godhino, elected from Cortalim constituency in June 2 elections, was proposed by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and seconded by Home Minister Ravi Naik.
Both, Chief Minister Kamat and BJP opposition leader Manohar Parrikar later led Mr Godhino to the chair of the Deputy Speaker.
The House congratulated him on his election later.
