Farmers delighted over water release tomorrow

Thanjavur, July 17 (UNI) The farmers in the Cauvery delta districts of Tamil Nadu have welcomed the decision of the Government to release water from the Mettur dam for irrigation from tomorrow.

The farmers are delighted over the prospects of starting the 'Kuruvai' (short term paddy) cultivation, as water will be released a week ahead of the first announcement.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who had on July 11 announced the opening of the dam on July 25, had today said the dam would be opened at 1800 hrs tomorrow as the dam had been receiving copious inflow.
