New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) The Delhi police have busted a syndicate, allegedly backed by the Pakistani ISI, indulging in smuggling of fake Indian currency notes from the neighbouring country via Nepal with the arrest of two of its members from the Lajpat Nagar area.

Hindu Singh and his associate Neeraj were arrested by a team of the Delhi Police Special Cell from Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi last night when they had come to deliver the consignment to a prospective customer.

A total of 11 wads of fake Indian currency notes of Rs 1000 denomination, amounting to Rs 10 lakhs, were found from their possession. A raid at their home at Vinoba Puri led to the recovery of Rs 9.5 lakhs worth of fake currency notes of Rs 1000 denomination.

Interrogation revealed that Hindu Singh, a resident of Nepal who had recently come to India, was engaged in the smuggling of fake currency for the last four years.

While in Nepal, Hindu Singh used to get counterfeit currency from Pakistan to Nepal. In 2003, he was arrested. Soon after, he came into contact with a Pak national working for the ISI.

Thereafter, Hindu Singh brought several consignments of fake currency to India.

Lately, Hindu Singh and Neeraj had been bringing consignments of counterfeit currency to India hidden in bags with false cavity in the bottom.
