BJP Legislature Party meets again to finalise strategy for Prez poll

Jaipur, July 17 (UNI) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party met today to finalise its strategy and brief its MLAs about procedural aspects in the Presidential polling to be held on July 19.

About 130 legislators from BJP, NDA allies and sympathetic Independents participated in the meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

BJP national general secretaries Gopinath Munde and Om Prakash Mathur and party state president Dr Mahesh Chand Sharma also participated in the meeting.

This was the third meeting of the BJP and NDA MLAs for discussing organisational preparation and strategy in the July 19 presidential election.

The BJP which is supporting Independent nominee Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for the presidency, enjoys a comfortable majority in the electoral college in Rajasthan, holding 122 seats in the 200 member State Assembly. Of these 122 members, one (Surendra Singh) presently stands expelled from the party. Besides its own strength, the ruling party is also banking on support from three members of Indian National Lok Dal, two mmebers of JD(U), one Samajik Nyaya Manch MLA and some of the 13 Independents.

Among MPs, the BJP presently holds 21 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats from the state and six of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats.
