3-day workshop on nuclear energy from July 19

Chennai, July 17: To highlight the importance of nuclear energy in day-to-day life, the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Loyola College will jointly organise a three-day workshop on 'Nuclear Energy for National Development and Environmental Sustainability' from July 19 here.

Briefing the media about the workshop here today, DAE Technical Coordination and Public Awareness Cell Engineer-in-Charge J Daniel Chellappa said, the workshop at the college grounds would deliberate on topics like power and non-power applications of radiation and radio isotopes in industry, food processing, agriculture and healthcare.

Experts from DAE, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) would deliver lectures on these topics, he added.

Mr Chellappa said about 300 science educators and researchers in physical and life sciences would attend the workshop, to be inaugurated by AERB Chairman Dr S K Sharma.
