2 jawans killed, 8 injured in militant attack

Jammu, July 17 (UNI) Two army jawans were killed and eight other seriously injured when militants attacked a convoy of the army in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district today.

At around 1630 hrs militants opened fire on an army convoy in Surankote area of Poonch, about 200 km north from Jammu, an army spokesperson said here.

Sources said reinforcements had been rushed to the area to track the attackers and a search operation started to nab the militants.

This was the first major attack on army personnel in the Jammu region in recent months.

The army jawans have been identified as Sepoy Hari Kishore and sepoy P T Vasant of 25 Rashtriya Rifles (RR). The injured have been admitted in army hospital, sources added.
