Young lensman sends 'SOS' on behalf of the winged friends
Amritsar, July 16 (UNI) A four-day photo exhibition on birds, titled 'SOS - From the Conquerors of the Sky!' has drawn warm response in this holy city.
The show by young photo-artist Arsh Rup Singh, which concluded here last evening, displayed 46 photographs of 26 different spices of birds from Amritsar district.
Talking to mediapersons on the concluding day, Singh said, "There is a great scope of bird photography in India as the country has vast natural diversity unlike in developed countries where multi-storey malls and multiplexes mar the skyline." Arsh Rup, who is also writing a book on bird photography said that people and government should plant different types of shrubs and trees to ensure the presence of birds around us in future.
Mr Gurdeep Singh, a visitor to the exhibition, said he was sure that the exhibition would help in creating awareness among people about the various species of birds.
Another visitor, Ms Reena Kapur, herself an avid bird- watcher, said ''Indeed there is a dire need to conserve the various species of birds as due to industrialisation, human interference and lack of awareness, the number of bird species was fast declining.'' She welcomed the photo-exhibition as a good means of spreading awareness about the issue and hoped more people concerned about the issue would come up with such efforts.
Mr Rup Singh said even if some of the visitors took up the cause ''of our feathered friends and realised that what they are going to lose forever, I would consider my effort successful.'' UNI
