UHBVN to intensify campaign against power theft
Chandigarh, July 16 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has intensified its campaign to curb the theft of electricity in command areas comprising Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Jind districts.
UHBVN spokesman said here today that the Nigam had fixed the target of checking 1,18,900 consumers' premises during the current year. The defective meters of the consumers would be changed for proper checkup of energy consumed by them, he added.
He said that checking teams of Vigilance staff had already checked 59436 consumers' premises upto June during the current year and detected 5544 cases of pilferage of power. The Nigam had levied penalty of over Rs 4.25 crore on the erring consumers and recovered over Rs 2.07 crore from them.
He further stated that now the theft of power was a cognizable and non-bailable offence.
