Trader shot at after being robbed of Rs 7.5 lakh

New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) A 35-year-old trader was today shot at by motorcycle-borne assailants in Keshavpuram area of North-West Delhi while trying to snatch his bag containing more than Rs seven lakh.

Rajendra Jain, owner of a plastic pellet manufacturing unit, was on his way to his Lawrence Road residence after withdrawing Rs 7.5 lakh from a bank in Ashok Vihar when he was shot at twice by three men on a motorcycle, said a police official.

The assailants way-laid the trader and tried to snatch his bag near Maharshi Dayanand Park in Keshavpuram, and shot him twice -- hitting him in the leg and armpit -- after he resisted. They later fled the spot after taking the bag.

He was rushed to the Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh where his condition is said to be serious.

The incident took place at around 1400 hrs.
