Sholay remake to be titled 'Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag'
New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) Delhi High Court today admitted the affidavit filed by film director Ram Gopal Verma stating that he will change the name of the remake of the classic film 'Sholay' he is making to ''Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag''.
An affidavit was filed in the court of Justice Geeta Mittal on behalf of the Ram Gopal Verma Production Company stating that they will change the name of the movie and also the names of characters.
Justice Mittal, in whose court the case between Sippy Films Pvt Ltd and Ram Gopal Verma Production Company was going on, agreed to the affidavit as both the parties had come to an agreement among themselves on the issue, with the latter agreeing to the changes sought by the former, the original producers of the hit film.
Sippy Films had filed a suit against Verma's Production Company for infringement of their trademark. Counsel for Sippy Films Sudhir Chandra Aggarwal and Pravin Anand contended that 'Sholay' has become a brand name in itself and by virtue of its prolonged usage, acquired a secondary meaning.
However, Verma's lawyers Rajive Nayyar and Amit Nayak filed an affidavit in the court that they will change the title of the new film as well as the names of the characters. The undertaking states that Verma's film is a new work and there is no similarity with the older film. It stated that even the story, dialogues and the music will be different.
Other issues relating to the rights of the Sholay films will be settled in the court in due course of time and remaining issues will be taken up on the court in the next date of hearing on December 2.
