Rs 70 lakh worth arrack seized in Belgaum dst

Belgaum, Jul 16 (UNI) In a joint operation Police and Excise Department officials seized illicit arrack worth over Rs 70 lakh and arrested ten persons at Khanapura in the district today.

Police Suprintendent Hemanth Nimbalkar said in a statement that the illicit arrack belonged to one Arvind Shivajappa Jorapur a former arrack contractor in the Khanapura. The huge haul of arrack was seized from godowns belonging to the contractor who was at large. A search was launched to nab him.

Karnataka government had banned manufacture and sale of arrack from June 30 and the officials have been cracking down on stocking of illicit arrack at various places in the state.
