Sambalpur, July 16 (UNI) Rath Yatra (car festival) or Ghosa Yatra to celebrate the nine-day sojourn of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra is celebrated at Kukurjangha in Jharsuguda district with a difference.

When the Rath Yatra finishes on the day of ''Bahuda Dasami'' everywhere in Orissa, at Kukurjangha it continues till the day of the Purnima (full moon).

The reason behind stretching the Yatra by five more days is still unknown. This is seen nowhere in Orissa where Lord's car festival is observed.

The Jagannath temple at Kukurjangha was built in the 17th century by erstwhile Rampur Jamidar family. And since then Rath yatra is being celebrated in this village, informed Sri Brahmananda Dasji Maharaj, the Mathadhisa of the temple. Hence, the festival is undoubtedly 500-year-old.

Rath Yatra at Kukurjangha is celebrated with one chariot, but like Puri the chariot of Kukurjangha consists of 16 wheels equal to that of ''Nandighosa'' of Lord Jagannath, the Mathadhisa adds.
