Ratha yatra celebrated in Tripura amid pomp
Agartala, Jul 16 (UNI) Ratha Yatra festival was today celebrated throughout Tripura with the traditional pomp and fervour.
A number of large chariot, carrying idols of Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Goddess Subhadra, were pulled by a large number of devotees at Shri Shri Jaggannath temple, Laxmi Narayan temple here, Melaghar and other parts of the state.
The festive mood was dampened in the morning for a few hours, following incessant rainfall that continued till noon. The situation, however, improved gradually although the sky remaind cloudy.
At the Jagannath temple and Laxmi Narayan temple, people from other areas wearing their respective dresses, both tribal and non-tribal, thronged the temples here and ewre seen offering prayers.
The Melaghar Ratha yatra, about 50 kms from here, where people from various parts of the state participated in the chariot pulling tradition of the Ratha Yatra.
Security measures had been tightened in the state to prevent any untoward incident.
