Ratha Jatra celebrated in Manipur

Imphal, Jul 16: The Ratha Jatra festival was celebrated here amid pomp and fervour today.

A massive chariot, where Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Goddess Subhadra alighted, was pulled by large number of devotees at Shri Shri Govindajee temple complex at Imphal.

The entire area wore a festive look with hundreds of people coming to watch the chariot festival.

The festival has been observed in Manipur since the 18th century when the Manipuris got converted into Hinduism.

Colourful replicas of the traditional Ratha were on display and sold in the festival.

Devotees attired in traditional clothes presented flowers and fruits tocc.

Besides, the festival was celebrated in all parts of Manipur with large number of chariots being pulled out by devotees.
