Mayawati directs special drive against history-sheeters

Lucknow, July 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today directed the police to launch a special drive against history-sheeters and warned of surprise inspections after completion of the Vidhan Sabha session.

Attending a meeting of IGS of various zones here, Ms Mayawati said she would conduct surprise inspections to know about the ground reality of the law and order situation and actions taken against the notorious criminals after the completion of the Vidhan Sabha Session.

Citing the Shravasti rape incident, the CM noted such occurrences revealed how active local police was.

The BSP supremo added it was imperative for the police to perform their duties and reach the spot of accident quickly so that the government's resolve of establishing a society free of injustice, crime, fear and corruption could be fulfilled and development works could be carried out as per the wishes of the masses.

She further directed the police to identify the officers who had been conniving with the criminals and take punitive action against them.

Directing the police administration, Ms Mayawati said FIRs should be lodged immediately as laxity will only encourage criminals.
