Law Book to help people with HIV/AIDS launched
New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) The Human Rights Law Network today launched a book that will provide free legal aid to people living with HIV/AIDS.
The two-volume book, titled ''HIV/AIDS and The Law'' brought out by the network in collobration with The Love life Society and Delhi Network of Positive People(DNP+), was released by Dr Mohini Giri, former chairperson of the National Commission for Women and INP president Elango Ramachandran at a function here.
Edited by Advisor to HRLN Laya Medhini and senior Lawyer Colin Gonsalves and his associate Dipika D'Souza, the book deals with such issues as gender vulnerability, employment discrimination, commercial sex workers, medical discrimination and access to treatment.
Each chapter contains explanatory text and case summaries on the topic used by both lawyers and non-lawyers, with full reports of Indian and international cases.
Talking to UNI, Ms D'Souza said the book, though published in English, would soon be published in Hindi and other six regional languages including Tamil and Telugu, while the other four languages had not been decided yet.
She added the two-volume book covered conversations with vulnerable and marginalised group of society such as commercial sex workers, homosexuals and users of injectible drugs, women and children in general.
Besides being of great relevance to lawyers, the book would also be useful for social activists and NGOs, working on HIV/AIDS-related cases.
