K'taka govt. to announce its stand on power project after session

Mysore, July 16 (UNI) Karnataka Cooperative and Mysore District Incharge Minister G T Deve Gowda today said the government would announce its stand on Chamalapura Thermal Power Plant project near Mysore after the current assembly session.

Speaking to newsmen he said the government would study the pros and cons of the project, besides consulting experts from whom it had sought a report, before taking a decision.

Replying to a question on his stand on the controversial project, he said "there are always protests against every project.

I have already informed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and energy Minister H D Revanna about the opposition against the project." The proposed Rs 5500 crore mega Thermal Power Project would produce 1000 MW of power and requires more then 3000 acres of land at Chamalapura village on H D Kote road in Mysore district.

People of the village and Mysore city which is very near to the proposed site, have objected to the project citing health hazards They had formed an association to protect the farmers' land in the village and launched an agitaion against the project.
