Jaipur, July 16 (UNI) The three-member Committee constituted by the Rajasthan Government for examining the demand of inclusion of Gujjar community into Schedled Tribe (ST) list, has been examining representations and records submitted by concerned parties including the state government, and would try to submit its report within given time.

Talking to reporters here Committee Chairman Justice Jasraj Chopra said, the committee had received over 1500 representations by various community organisations, associations and individuals for and against the demand of ST status for Gujjars.

The committee would consider the request for personal hearing before it by July 28 and in the meantime it was examining and analysing representations and records submitted before it by the concerned parties, Justice Chopra said.

The state government had provided records and reports from district collectors of almost all 32 districts and the the committee had already made detailed analysis of the facts provided by the collectors in their reports, he added.

However, this was only one part of its task as the committee was yet to examine the representations submitted by various parties for and against the demand of ST status to Gujjars.

Justice Chopra said the committee, if needed, might visit certain areas to resolve conflicting claims over the issue.

The committee would try its best to submit its report in the stipulated time, he added.

The committee was constituted by the state government last month following an understanding between the agitating Gujjar reservation action committee and the state government on June 4 last. It is expected to submit its report by three months.

The Gujjar Reservation Action Committee had spearheaded a week-long agitation to press for its demand, during which 25 people had died in police firing and mob violence.

Meanwhile, various organisations, including Scheduled Tribe Arakhshan Bachao Morcha, Rastriya Meena Mahasabha, Rawat Samaj, All India Equality Forum, had submitted their reporsentation over the issue.

Today was the last day for submission of representation before the committee.
