Heavy rains lash Uttara Kannada, Shimoga districts in K'taka

Sirsi, Karnataka, Jul 16 (UNI) Normal life has been paralyzed due to continuous heavy rains during the last two days in the hilly Uttar Kannada and Shimoga districts in Karnataka.

Kali, Aghanashini, Bedti, Gangavali, Varada rivers in Uttara Kannada district were flowing at full levels, while in Shimoga district Sagar and Sorab taluks were worst hit. Varada flowing near historically famous Banavasi had caused floods and Mogavalli village in Bhashi Grama Panchayat area had been marooned.

Sirsi taluk administration was conducting relief operations in the affected areas.

The crust gates of Kadra dam, across the river Kali in Uttara Kannada district, has been opened due to heavy rain fall in the catchment areas of the river. Karnataka Power Corporation has cautioned the people living downstream to move to safer places.

In Shimoga district river Sharavati, Tunga, Bhadra, Kumudvati were flowing near the danger marks. More than 2,500 acres of paddy fields had been submerged in Tadagalale region of Sagar taluk.

World famous Jogfalls had regained its splendur and was attracting a huge number of tourists and nature lovers everyday.
