HC directs UP govt to act on triaffic rules violators

Lucknow, July 16 (UNI) Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking improvement in traffic system here, Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court (HC) today directed the Mayawati government to initiate stringent action against those found guilty.

A two Bench comprising Justices Devi Prasad Singh and J M Paliwal passed the order on a PIL filed by Manju Singh.

The HC noted Rs 500 penalty ought to be imposed on three and four wheelers, if found breaking traffic rules, while Rs 200 additional on two-wheelers.

The Bench directed the UP government not to pass maps of shopping malls and multi-storied complexes till there is a special parking arrangement.

Further, the bench directed construction of one way roads in all busy areas of the state capital.

It underlined that both conductor and driver of buses need to wear khakhi uniform while on duty and driver should always wear seat belt.

The Bench further prohibited the use of pressure and musical horns and directed the BSP government to set up a state level Enforcement-Cum-Supervisory Committee to check violation of traffic rules and initiate strict action against the violators.

The HC fixed October 4 as next hearing of the case.
