Barring the Legislature party leader Nomula Narasimhaiah, rest of the Legislators joined the party state Secretary B V Raghavulu, Assistant Secretary Y Venkateswara Rao and other top leaders, who were sitting in hunger strike at the Indira Park.
Mr Venkateswara Rao told UNI that their main demands were appointment of a Commission on the land reforms, appointment of an Ombudsman on the irregularities committed in the implementation of the 'Indiramma' scheme, withdrawal of all kinds of restrictions on the land movement taken up by his party and distribution of lands to the poor.
A report from Vijayawada said as part of their state-wide agitation programme, the CPI(Marxist) activists staged dharna in front of Sub-Collector office for three hours, demanding the government to provide house sites to the poor.
The CPM state committee member C H Baburao and District Secretary V Umamaheswara Rao who led the dharna, said the government had no sincerity in the land distribution issue.
