Babubhai permitted to vote for President, Vice President

New Delhi, July 16 (UNI) A local court today granted custody parole to suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara accused in human trafficking case for casting his vote in the July 19 Presidential election and August 10 Vice-Presidential elections between 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau clarified the custody parole is granted only for the purpose of casting his vote and Katara should not be attending any sittings of the House unless so permitted.

ACMM further directed the jail suprintendent to make all necessary arrangements in respect of the compliance of the order.

The MP was arrested with a woman named Paramjeet Kaur and a teenaged boy at the Indira Gandhi International airport while he was trying to take them to Canada on the diplomatic passports of his wife and son.

Police has also today filed charges in Katara case alleging the contravention of section 467, 419,420.466,468,474,120(B) of Indian Penal Code and 12(1) of Passport Act The court further extended the judicial custody of Katara till July 30.
