Activist laments 'mudslinging match' during Prez polls

Lucknow, July 16 (UNI) A social activist has lamented the ongoing mudslinging between UPA and NDA over the Presidential elections.

''The mudslinging, instead of a healthy debate is a sure sign of the level of polity in the country,'' Arun Kumar alias Pani Baba told reporters here.

The Baba, associated with Pani Chetna Samiti, said the President's post is not merely a ceremonial office. ''The President is the supreme custodian of all legislative, judicial and executive powers and institutions mentioned in our Constitution,'' he said.

He lamented that besides the candidates and the various political parties involved, the media too has failed to educate the common man and the people involved in the election about the value of the highest office.
