Vijayawada, July 15 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International Working President S Vedantam today said VHP would oppose demolition of ''Rama Sethu'' or Adam's Bridge at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu for implementation of the Sethu Samudram Canal Project (SSCP) by the Centre.

Addressing a press conference here, he said a meeting of Dharmacharyas and mutt heads would be held at New Delhi on July 25 and 26 to decide the future course of action in this regard.

Mr Vedantam said nearly 38 lakh signatures were collected against the demolition of bridge and a representation was handed over to President A P J Abdul Kalam, besides filing petitions in the courts.

He urged the UPA government at the Centre to protect the Adam's Bridge as a national monument.

On Andhra Pradesh government's decision to provide four per cent reservation to Muslims in education and employment, he said such a move would affect the very fabric of the nation.

He alleged that lot of evangelists activities were taking place in the state and several idols in temples were broken by anti-socials.
