Notice to J

Srinagar, July 15 (UNI) A local court has issued a show-cause notice to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for using force against women Anganwari workers during an agitation here on July 11.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar issued the notice on a petition filed by some lawyers against the police personnel who assaulted the women Anganwari workers.

Citing newspaper reports and photographs showing policemen manhandling the women Anganwari workers, the petition asked why women personnel were not used to disperse the protestors.

By doing so, the petitioners said, the policemen have violated the section 345 of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and sought action under section 190 of the CrPC against them.

The CJM, Srinagar, took strong note of ''excessive use of force'' by the police on the women Anganwari workers during their peaceful demonstration here on last Wednesday.

The Judge then issued the show-cause notice, asking the Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) to explain why action should not be initiated against the police personnel involved in the attack on women Anganwari workers during the protests.
