Vishwa Bharati students and teachers oppose changing of emblem
Santiniketan, Jul 14 (UNI) The teachers and students of Vishwa Bharati University upped the ante against Vice-Chancellor Rajat Kanti Roy's decision to change the university logo.
Addressing a press conference, the VC had proposed changing the present logo of the university.
The present emblem, designed in 1921, has a "Swastika" sign on both sides, with a lotus flower - symbol of knowledge and education - in the middle.
The proposed new logo would have an image of Lord Buddha in the middle, with the images of Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore on the right and left sides respectively.
Mr Roy said the Kala Bhavan had already been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the new logo, which would subsequently replace the old logo in all the offices and documents of the university.
However, the VC assured that no decision would be taken in this matter without their consent.
