Union Minister inaugurates conference on ophthalmology

Chennai, July 14 (UNI) Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation G K Vasan today inaugurated the Silver Jubilee conference on Opthalmology.

Organised by the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India (IIRSI), the conference would bring together the pioneers in the field of opthalmology with presentation on latest techniques in eye surgeries, discoveries and inventions in the field.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vasan said about 25 per cent of the world blind population were from India. At least 80 of them could be prevented with timely treatment using the advanced technology and techniques.

Scientific committee Chairman Amar Agarwal said with the international faculties sharing their knowledge and experience, the conference would help the opthalmologists to keep abreast with the recent developments in the field of opthalmology.

About 200 delegates, including experts from US and eminent opthlamologists from leading hospitals attended the two day conference.
