UNBVN issues new norms to tackle power theft
Chandigarh, July 14 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has issued new guidelines for the staff to detect the cases of power theft.
A Nigam spokesman said that under the new guidelines the Assistant Foreman, Junior Engineers (Field, Maintenance, Protection and Vigilance) had been authorised to disconnect the power supply of the erring domestic, non-domestic, agriculture and LT Industrial category consumers.
Also, Sub-Divisional Officers of Operation, maintenance, Protection and Vigilance had been authorised to disconnect immediately the supply of erring HT Industrial, Bulk Supply, Public Lighting and other category consumers.
The officers of higher rank had also been authorised to disconnect supply on detection of power theft.
He pointed out that the supply of such consumers would be restored within 48 hours of the deposit of 100 per cent amount of the assessed sum.
In case of default the consumers would be liable to pay interest at the prevailing Reserve Bank of India lending rate for the period of default.
The restoration of such connections would be without prejudice to the obligation of lodging the complaint to the police and in the court.
