Two Pak infiltrators killed, arms recovered in J and K

Srinagar, July 14 (UNI) Two Pakistani infiltrators were killed and a large cache of arms and ammunition recovered in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

A report from Baramulla said troops of six Grenadiers, guarding the Line of Control (LoC), noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan - occupied- Kashmir (PoK) in Keran sector early this morning.

When challenged and asked to surrender at Balter near the LoC, the militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the ensuing fierce clash two infiltrators were killed.

They said the entire forest area of about ten km was cordoned off and searches were launched to nab the militants.

This was the first infiltration attempt during this month in Keran sector.

About 60 militants were killed after they sneaked into this side from POK during the past six months.

As many as 100 militants also surrendered with their families before the troops after their return from POK during the past two years.

According to the intelligence inputs, more than 1500 militants were waiting across the border to sneak into this side from POK before the infiltration routes were closed due to snowfall in winter.

Security forces and police in a joint operation busted a hideout at Hari Surankote and recovered one pistol, one magazine, seven rounds and other arms and ammunition. Forces also recovered one hundred rounds from a house at Handwara.
