TN inks MoU with MPPL for renewable energy SEZ
Chennai, July 14: The Tamil Nadu government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MPPL Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd for setting up a first ever SEZ exclusively for Renewable Energy at Kancheepuram district at a total investment of Rs 1,373 crore.
An Industrial park in the name ''Future Energy Zone'' would be set up at the SEZ jointly by the Mumbai-based Kamala Group and the MPPL group.
The MoU was signed in the State Secretariate in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy in the presence of MPPL Founder S Krishan and Kamala Group Chairman R B Lord and other officials.
More than Rs 900 crore had been invested towards infrastructure in the Industrial Park which would provide direct employment to 5,000 people and indirect jobs to 10,000 people.
To be set up in a 215 hectare area, the first phase of the park would become operational by the end of 2008.
The Park would have R and D facilities, manufacturing and testing laboratories and human resources development in Renewable Energy sector.
The Industrial Park would also house companies that manufacture products used in the Renewable Energy sector like digestors, special fuel engines, solar vapour plates and carbon fuel batteries.
